Spring Training begins this week, and with it comes the official shift from offseason talk to on-field reality.

With the Super Bowl in the rearview mirror, Spring Training once again becomes the dividing line between winter and baseball season. Pitchers and catchers reporting signals that rosters are about to be tested, jobs are about to be evaluated, and plans start turning into actual lineups and rotations.

Workouts get underway early for the Giants, who will bring pitchers and catchers into camp this week before the full squad arrives shortly after. This Spring Training carries added importance after an offseason that reshaped parts of the roster.

2026 Spring Training Report Dates

New center fielder Harrison Bader is expected to anchor the outfield defensively, while NL hits leader Luis Arraez adds a high-contact presence to the middle of the lineup. In the rotation, Adrian Houser enters Spring competing for innings and providing depth behind the top starters. How those newcomers integrate will be one of the main storylines in Giants Spring Training.

The A’s begin workouts soon after, with a camp that again emphasizes competition and player evaluation. Veteran infielder Jeff McNeil arrives as a stabilizing presence, while much of the focus will be on Jacob Wilson, the Rookie of the Year runner-up who reports to Spring Training fresh off a contract extension.

Outfielder Tyler Soderstrom, who also signed an extension this offseason, is another player expected to take on a significant role as Spring Training unfolds.

While Spring results rarely tell the full story, the camp’s structure matters. Spring Training is where rotations begin to sort themselves out, defensive alignments are tested, and managers show how they intend to deploy their rosters. For the Giants, Spring Training is about finding consistency and balance after roster changes.

For the A’s, the next six weeks will serve as a measuring stick for which young players are ready for everyday roles.

By mid-February, Spring Training will be fully underway. Exhibition games will fill afternoon schedules, daily box scores will return, and the shape of the 2026 season will start to come into focus. Spring Training may not decide everything, but it’s where the season officially begins.
