On Monday morning it was announced that Sacramento Kings forward Harrison Barnes was one of the 44 athletes named to the 2020 US Olympic Men’s Basketball Team. Barnes has made the final cut on his previous 2 Team USA trails, making the previous Olympic roster in 2016 and then once again for the 2019 FIBA Word Cup roster this past summer.

During the 2016 gold-medal run, Banes averaged 4.3 points (.426 FG%, .333% 3PT, 4-4 FT) 1.3 rebounds per game on four appearances. At the 2019 FIBA World Cup, he averaged 11.6 points (.476% FG,.333% 3PT, 24-27 FT) 4.6 rebounds in 8 contests.

Of the 44 players selected, 29 have previous Olympic or FIBA experience, including all 12 members of the 2019 FIBA World Cup roster and 9 from the 2016 Olympic squad.

Some notable exclusions from the 44-man roster from the Sacramento Kings where Marvin Bagley III and De’Aaron Fox , both of whom participated in the Team USA 2019 FIBA World Cup camp for a brief stint before both dropping out to “focus on the upcoming season”.

“Over the course of the remainder of the NBA season we’ll continue to monitor all of the athletes. Selecting the 12-man USA roster will obviously be an extremely challenging and difficult process, and we will again attempt to select the very best team possible to represent our country and who we hope will be successful in our difficult mission of repeating as Olympic champions for a fourth consecutive Olympics.” – Jerry Colangelo, Managing Director of the USA Basketball Men’s National Team
