Jason Anderson, Sacramento Kings reporter for the Sacramento Bee, joined The Drive Guys to discuss the final push for the playoffs, another matchup with the Mavericks looming after Tuesday’s loss, and more.

Following a Phoenix win Wednesday night, the Kings now sit in the eighth seed of the Western Conference standings. They’re half a game behind the Suns and a game behind Dallas. Friday’s matchup between the Kings and Mavs has strong playoff implications.

Anderson, though, isn’t worried about Phoenix.

“[Dallas] has done a nice job of putting some pieces around [Luka and Kyrie], that’s taken them to another level,” Anderson said. “I would expect it to be Dallas and Sacramento fighting it out for that sixth seed and Phoenix on the outside looking in…I’ve been saying for a while now that I think the Kings are going to end up ahead of Phoenix and Dallas is surging a little bit.”

Additional topics discussed include:

  • Tuesday’s loss was “disappointing” and “a big step back defensively.”
  • What do the Sacramento Kings need to do in the final 10 games of the season?
  • Is failure for the Kings not to make it out of the play-in?
  • When can we expect to see Sasha Vezenkov?
  • Why Trey Lyles is especially missed right now
  • What is the potential for the backcourt duo of De’Aaron Fox and Keon Ellis?
  • How his question to Fox was meant to be more of a positive assessment of the guard’s leadership but was misinterpreted online
