Sacramento Kings associate head coach Jordi Fernandez joined “The Drive Guys” to talk about the team’s road trip, their defensive improvements and getting snubbed in All-Star representation.
The 2024 NBA All-Star reserves were announced on Thursday afternoon and neither De’Aaron Fox nor Domantas Sabonis made the list. Currently, the 5th seed in the Western Conference with a 27-19 record, both players are putting together All-Star caliber seasons. But, just because the NBA didn’t see it that way doesn’t mean Sacramento agrees.
“You know, they were not named by other people All-Stars, but I think it’s pretty obvious that they are. If you look at the roster, you look at their numbers, you know it is what it is,” Jordi Fernandez said. “And that’s the only way you can take it is, you know, prove everybody wrong. And I know our guys do it. They do it consistently every night. And that has to be our goal. And the rest of us will help them out to make sure that everybody knows. So, like you said, probably not. But again, like, obviously, those are opinions that that’s how the system works. We all have different opinions and ours is that those guys are All-Stars, so it’s not going to change our minds.”
Additional topics discussed include:
- How this current road trip is compared to the five-game road trip earlier this year.
- Miami wanted the win more than the Kings
- Carefully conveying a sense of urgency during an 82-game season
- What happened last time the Kings faced the Pacers and how to avoid another loss to Indianapolis
- Coaches and front office build strong relationships inside the organization
