With the calendar turning to the 2023-24 season, it’s only right that the “Black Mamba” makes his return to the cover of 2K.

Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant has been announced as the cover athlete for video game company 2K Sports’ new NBA installment, NBA 2K24. The company revealed their cover athlete Thursday, marking the fourth time Bryant has appeared on the cover of the franchise.

This is the first time since 2K10 that Bryant has graced the standard edition cover, also appearing on the $99.99 “Black Mamba Edition,” referring to Bryant’s nickname. The player also appeared on special editions of NBA 2K17 and NBA 2K21.

Kobe Bryant will be on two of the four covers for this year’s installment, with WNBA star Sabrina Ionescu on a GameStop-exclusive edition. There will also be a super-deluxe 25th Anniversary Edition of NBA 2K24, available for preorder at $149.99. The mega edition includes loads of in-game content, and a 12-month subscription to NBA League Pass. Additionally, if you preorder the 25th anniversary edition before July 18th, you will also receive Summer League bonus content, including a 90-rated Victor Wembanyama MyTeam card.

While the game is being revealed in phases, 2K Sports’ announcement added that 2K24 will include “Mamba Moments”, a mode which will recreate some of Bryant’s most memorable performances.

The franchise’s new installment will also introduce CrossPlay, allowing cross-platform multiplayer for users. The feature is only available between Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 versions.

NBA 2K24 is set to release on September 8th, with preorders available for purchase now.
