The Marvin Bagley III drama appeared to be over for the Sacramento Kings–but then again, we are talking about Marvin Bagley III and the Sacramento Kings.
According to sources close to Sean Cunningham of ABC 10 Sacramento, the Kings forward refused to check into Monday night’s game against the Phoenix Suns.
In the video posted by Cunningham, Bagley is seen shaking his head while walking away from the team’s timeout huddle.
When asked of the incident on Wednesday, Walton would neither confirm or deny Bagley refusing to enter the game.
“Anything that happens within our group, that’s between our group,” Walton told the media prior to Wednesday night’s game in San Antonio. “The thing that matters is people know what’s expected and we continue to move forward tonight.”
Sam Amick of The Athletic joined The Carmichael Dave Show with JayMarzz on Thursday morning to share his thoughts on the incident and more.
“The optics are that (Bagley) wakes up every morning saying ‘I’m a #2 pick’ instead of ‘I’m a basketball player, who’s career is in fairly significant jeopardy,’ which is what his attitude should be,” Amick said of Bagley.
Bagley has only appeared in one game this season, logging just four minutes during Sacramento’s loss to the Utah Jazz on October 22nd.
Prior to October 20th’s season-opener in Portland, Bagley’s agent, Jeff Schwartz of Excel Sports, issued a statement that ripped the Kings organization for excluding the 22-year-old from the opening night rotation.
Bagley will become a restricted free agent at the end of the 2021-22 regular season, but it’s looking more likely that the former number-two pick from the 2018 draft could make his exit from the organization prior to February’s trade deadline.
