Keegan Murray could be the key to the Kings’ continued success. At least that’s what Mike Brown believes.

The Kings coach joined Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson on a recent episode of “All the Smoke.” And when Barnes asked who could be the team’s third star behind De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis, Brown didn’t hesitate.

“Keegan. I’m going to put the pressure on him,” Brown told Jackson and Barnes. “He got the chance to be that guy.”

Brown also spoke about Murray’s confidence growing over the summer and how he won’t just be a catch-and-shoot guy in his sophomore season.

“You going to see him put it on the floor, going to play some pick and roll, going to play some zoom action,” Brown said, adding Keegan Murray has the ability to be one of the best two-way players in the game. “So Keegan has the ability to do it, we just have to put him in positions to be uncomfortable and try to figure it out from time to time without really hurting the team as a whole for too long a stretch.”

Barnes and Jackson also asked about the Kings’ sustaining last year’s successes. Brown pointed to Fox’s increased leadership, noting how he took Murray under his wing this offseason, and how that not only benefited the second-year player but the veteran guard, too.

“The thing I saw this summer with our guys was Foxy’s growth with his leadership,” Brown told Barnes and Jackson. “It started last year, but to see him take Keegan under his wing and help Keegan grow at a faster than if Keegan was working out… own his own. But to have Foxy have him under his wing and doing that… that’s helped Keegan’s growth.”
