For the second time this season, and this month even, Nick Bosa has been named the NFC’s Defensive Player of the Week.
In his Week 16 matchup against the Washington Commanders, the 49ers defensive lineman registered seven tackles, two sacks and one forced fumble. Bosa also had a sack on a two-point conversion attempt, but two-point conversion plays don’t count toward official stat-keeping.
Nick Bosa previously was named the Defensive Player of the Week in Week 13 and the NFC Player of the Month for November. Through 16 games, he leads the NFL with 17.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and nearly 50 combined tackles. He will have two more chances to either tie the NFL single-season sack record at 22.5 or set a new record. The 49ers face off against the Las Vegas Raiders on New Year’s Day then end the season against division rivals, the Arizona Cardinals.
Also honored in the NFC were Carolina Panthers running back D’Onta Foreman and Minnesota Vikings kicker Greg Joseph. Players in the AFC named player of the week include Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, Steelers defensive tackle Cameron Heyward and Jaguars kicker Riley Patterson.
