Defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw is set to reunite with his first defensive coordinator in New York.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Kinlaw has agreed to a one-year deal with Robert Saleh and the Jets. The terms of the deal have not been released.

San Francisco declined to extend Kinlaw’s fifth-year option before the 2023 season. The 14th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Javon Kinlaw has racked up 70 combined tackles, five sacks, one interception and seven passes defended during his tenure in San Francisco. His best year came in 2023 when he played all 17 games, totaling 25 tackles 3.5 sacks and six quarterback hits.

He has played a total of 41 games in his NFL career because, in 2021, he tore his ACL, only playing four games. In 2022, after inflammation in his surgically repaired knee appeared, the 49ers shut him down for the 2022 season, playing only six games.

Saleh was Kinlaw’s defensive coordinator during his rookie season.

Key offseason dates for the San Francisco 49ers

  • March 13 – The 2024 free agency signing period begins at 1 p.m. PST
  • March 24-27 – Annual league meeting in Orlando
  • April 25-27 – NFL Draft in Detroit
