Following reports from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Tuesday may be bittersweet for Kings fans. According to the NBA insider, after a month-long search, the Brooklyn Nets are prepared to hire Sacramento Kings associate head coach Jordi Fernandez as the team’s next head coach.
The 41-year-old coach was previously attached to the Charlotte Hornets’ head coaching vacancy earlier this season.
Brooklyn fired Jacque Vaughn midway through the season, naming Kevin Ollie as their interim head coach. The Nets finished with a 32-50 record.

The Nets have not formally announced the hire yet.
Last summer, Jordi Fernandez was attached to head coaching openings with the Toronto Raptors, Milwaukee Bucks and Phoenix Suns.
Fernandez served as an assistant and head coach in the G-League for the Canton Charge before making the jump to the NBA in 2016, where he coached under former Kings head coach Michael Malone with the Denver Nuggets for six seasons.
He joined Brown’s coaching staff in Sacramento ahead of the 2022-23 season.
“Fernández will continue to coach the Kings for the rest of this season,” Wojnarowski added in a follow-up post.
What’s next for Jordi Fernandez and the Kings?
The stage is set for a Kings vs. Warriors rematch.
Sacramento will get a chance at redemption on Tuesday night when it faces Golden State in another win-or-go-home showdown. The ninth-seed Kings will look to send the tenth-seed Warriors home when the two teams meet at Golden 1 Center.
Not even one year ago, Stephen Curry’s 50-point performance eliminated Sacramento in Game 7 of the NBA Playoffs’ opening round, which also took place on the Kings’ home floor.
Sacramento and Golden State split the regular season series 2-2 this season, with both teams winning one game at home and on the road.
