It looks like the 49ers will be in the market for a new kicker this offseason, with Robbie Gould leaving the team in 2023.
Reports surfaced Saturday that the veteran placekicker will be looking for a new home next season, despite enjoying the last several years in the Bay Area. ESPN’s Adam Schefter was first to report the news, with NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco confirming it thereafter.
Gould can begin negotiating with other NFL teams on March 13, when the open-negotiating period begins for free agents.
Veteran kicker Robbie Gould said today that, as much as he enjoyed his last six seasons in San Francisco, he will test free agency later this month and be kicking elsewhere in 2023.

Gould, 40, has spent the last six seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, coming over form the New York Giants in 2017. The 10th-leading scorer in NFL history, Gould was most accurate with the Red & Gold, hitting 87.5% of his kicks for the 49ers. His best moment was the game-winning field goal against the Green Bay Packers in the NFC divisional round in the 2022 postseason.
Confirming that he wouldn’t retire last month, Gould has a few things on bucket list left before he kicks the bucket on his football career.
“I’m nowhere near retiring,” Robbie Gould told Maiocco last month. “I got a lot left to do from a career perspective: No. 1 being winning a Super Bowl. And, two, I’m pretty close to a lot of milestones I think would be pretty neat to be able to accomplish.”
With San Francisco strapped for cash this offseason, the organization will now look for a cheaper, younger option on special-teams.
