The 49ers have struggled to keep hold of their depth this offseason, making up some ground by extending George Odum.
Reports surfaced Tuesday that the San Francisco 49ers and Odum had agreed on a two-year contract extension. The deal is reportedly worth up to $10.8 million in total, keeping him with the Red & Gold through the 2026 season.
The Athletic’s Matt Barrows was first with the news Monday. National media confirmed the deal thereafter.
George Odum led NFL with 21 special teams tackles in 2022. He was leading league again before 2023 injury.
Odum had been under contract for just one more season prior to this extension, which'll give him a raise over what had been a vet min salary. Safety depth also needed https://t.co/vubtLfs2oH

George Odum, 30, joined the 49ers in 2022 as a depth secondary member. In two seasons, he’s become a pivotal special-team ace for SF, leading the NFL in ST tackles (31). Prior to getting hurt last season, he lead the league with 21 tackles, and was a noticeable absence when he was off the field. He missed six games last season with a bicep injury.
Before the 49ers, the Central Arkansas alum played four years for the Indianapolis Colts. He made his lone All-Pro team in 2020, also on special teams.
SF has lost a majority of their defensive depth this offseason, particularly on the defensive line. Notable losses include Clelin Ferrell and Javon Kinlaw to greener pastures. The 49ers are also set to release captain Arik Armstead, due to contract disputes.
The Red & Gold are looking to reinforce their secondary in 2024, getting started with a new deal for Odum. Additionally, free-agent safety Rayshawn Jenkins is reportedly visiting with the 49ers Tuesday.
