Sacramento Kings guard De’Aaron Fox has been named as a finalist for the NBA’s first-ever Clutch Player of the Year award.

Fox, who leads the league in several clutch stat categories, was named as one of three finalists for the award, joining Chicago Bulls forward DeMar DeRozan and Miami Heat forward Jimmy Butler in the running to take home the inaugural Jerry West trophy.

The sixth-year guard was a go-to option for Sacramento in late-game situations this season, as Fox came through in the fourth countless times while leading the Kings to its first NBA Playoff berth since 2006.

Fox, a first-time All-Star in 2022-23, finished the season with averages of 25.0 points, 4.2 rebounds (career-high), 6.1 assists, and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 51 percent from the field and 32 percent from three-point range.

It’s widely expected that the speedy guard will take home the Clutch Award, adding to an incredible season for the franchise guard and a Kings organization that continues to trend upward following nearly two decades of misery.

The days of darkness appear to be over, and Fox’s late heroics were a massive part of this team’s change of direction.
