The Sacramento Kings picked up a thrilling Game 1 win on Saturday night, and they did so while Domantas Sabonis and Keegan Murray dealt with offensive struggles.
Game 2 between the Kings and Golden State Warriors will tip off at 7:00 PM PST on Monday night at Golden 1 Center as Sacramento aims to take a 2-0 series lead–an advantage that would hand Stephen Curry his first 0-2 deficit in his NBA career.
Sabonis and Murray spoke with the media on Monday morning to share their thoughts on the Game 1 win and dive into what adjustments need to be made if the Kings want to come away with another win in Game 2.
Domantas Sabonis
Sabonis during Game 1:
- 12 points
- 5/17 FG
- 16 rebounds
- 2 assists
- 4 turnovers
- 34 minutes
Golden State center Kevon Looney made Sabonis uncomfortable in the post during Game 1, as Sabonis went three-for-13 (23%) from the field when defended by Looney.
The All-Star center wasn’t his normal self on offense in a variety of ways, including playmaking, as Sabonis finished the night with just two assists versus four turnovers.
If Sabonis can be productive on the offensive end–scoring, distributing, or both–the Kings will be in a much better position to take a 2-0 lead.
Keegan Murray
Murray during Game 1:
- 2 points
- 1/5 FG
- 0/3 3PT
- 4 rebounds
- 15 minutes
The Warriors did a good job of taking Sacramento’s sharpshooters out of the game as Murray and Kevin Huerter combined to go 0-for-eight from three-point land on Saturday night.
While Murray and Huerter struggled, the Kings got a boost from De’Aaron Fox (four-of-eight) and Trey Lyles (four-of-six) from beyond the arc during the 126-123 win.
If Golden State changes us its defense in an attempt to slow down Fox, expect Murray to get more looks on the perimeter while Fox looks to pass out of potential double-teams.
