Two years ago today, the rookie guard helped lift Sacramento to a clutch win over Los Angeles

All athletic events will be on pause for the foreseeable future, which is a tough pill to swallow for sports fans around the world.

While this may be a rough time for Sacramento Kings fans, we can look back on some good times while we wait for basketball to make it’s return.

On This Date: April 1, 2018

When the Sacramento Kings drafted De’Aaron Fox, they likely had visions of what transpired back on April Fools’ Day of 2018.

The then-rookie guard out of Kentucky sunk a floater with 9.7 seconds left to give the Kings a four-point lead, putting the game away as Sacramento would go on to outlast the Los Angeles Lakers by a final of 84-83 at STAPLES Center.

Fox finished with 14 points and six assists in the win, while Buddy Hield had a game-high 19 points to go along with four steals. Bogdan Bogdanovic chipped in with 15 points, and Willie Cauley-Stein had 11 points to go along with 7 rebounds.

In a rookie season hampered by injuries, Fox would finish strong, averaging 14.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 5.8 assists over the final five games.

Over the past two NBA seasons, Fox has turned into a budding star. In 126 regular-season games, the speedy guard is posting numbers of 18.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, 7.1 assists and 1.6 steals per game.

When the 2019-20 NBA season was put on hiatus, Sacramento was closing the gap on the eighth-seeded Memphis Grizzlies. Fox had been on a tear, averaging 22.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 6.1 assists over his last 16 games. Hopefully, once things are safe, we will see Fox continue to ascend the NBA point guard ranks.

If the past two seasons were any indication, it seems likely that we will.
