On this date in 2002, the Sacramento Kings took a 2-1 series lead over the Dallas Mavericks in the second round of the NBA Playoffs.

The 2001-02 Kings season is primarily remembered for the team’s Western Conference battle against the Los Angeles Lakers, but there were plenty of battles for Sacramento along the way.

During Game 3 of the NBA Playoff second round on May 9, 2002, Chris Webber and Mike Bibby put the Kings on their backs en route to a 125-119 win on the road in Dallas.

Webber finished the game with 31 points on 15-of-26 shooting to go along with 15 rebounds, five assists, and three blocks over 44 minutes. The Hall of Famer is the most recent Sacramento King to post 30+ points and 15+ rebounds in an NBA Playoff game.

Bibby added 29 points on a perfect five-for-five shooting performance from three-point range while handing out nine assists over 45 minutes.

“[Bibby] was unbelievable. He made big plays for us all night,” Kings coach Rick Adelman said. “I was worried that he would run out of gas, but that’s Mike. He’s a competitor.”

Doug Christie scored 20 points on six-of-six shooting, with 14 of those points coming during the fourth quarter. Vlade Divac posted a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds during the win.
