Several memorable NBA Playoff games have happened on this date over the years for Sacramento

All athletic events will be on pause for the foreseeable future, which is a tough pill to swallow for sports fans around the world.

While this may be a rough time for Sacramento Kings fans, we can look back on some good times while we wait for basketball to make its return.

April 29, 2004 – NBA Western Conference First Round

Kings 119, Mavericks 118 (SAC wins series 4-1)

The pain from Sacramento’s 2003 Game 7 loss to Dallas was erased on this date 16 years ago when the Kings eliminated the Mavericks in an NBA Playoff classic.

With a chance to close the series out at home, Sacramento used big games from Mike Bibby (36 points) and Peja Stojakovic (23 points) to pull out a 119-118 win to eliminate the Mavericks from playoff contention.

Sacramento did not score over the final 3:22 of gameplay, but it wouldn’t matter as Dallas also struggled to execute offensively down the stretch.

Trailing by one point with 6.2 seconds remaining, Dirk Nowitzki aimed to send the series back to Dallas with a last-second shot. His attempt at the buzzer was strongly contested by Stojakovic, as the miss would send the Kings onto the second round to face Kevin Garnett and the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Peja Stojakovic scored 30 points, Chris Webber added 23 points and the Sacramento Kings moved onto the second round of the NBA Playoffs when they defeated the Utah Jazz by a final 91-86 in Salt Lake City.

With the win, Sacramento advanced to the second round for the second-consecutive season.

The Sacramento Kings pulled to within one win of moving on to the second round of the playoffs for the first time in the Sacramento era after defeating the Phoenix Suns in Game 3 by a final of 104-96.

Chris Webber scored 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Peja Stojakovic added 21 points in the win. Doug Christie contributed with 17 points and six rebounds to go along with his two steals and two blocked shots.
