Over the next two weeks, Sports 1140 KHTK will be sharing some stories from a variety of personalities that have experienced Sacramento Kings basketball at ARCO Arena.
After a 33-year run–28 years as the home of the Kings–ARCO will be demolished in the coming months to make way for a new California Northstate University medical school and teaching hospital.
The Kings will be holding a farewell event for the arena on Saturday, March 19th. You can find more info here.

- What is your favorite ARCO Arena moment?
I didn’t get to go to Arco all that much, but the first time I went to Arco was for a WWF event when I was four or five with my dad, uncles, and cousins.
The only part I remember was the Honky Tonk Man, (He was my favorite wrestler at the time because I was a weird kid), and my cousin making fun of me for crying when Papa Shango came out. I was also there when Macho Man joined the NWO on Monday Night Nitro.
If you have the Peacock Network you can see a 12-year-old Chris Verlod who was NWO 4-Life
- What will you miss most about ARCO Arena?
There was a distinctive smell at Arco. A combination of stale popcorn, spilled beer, and they used to make some sort of candy pecans. The smells didn’t go together at all, but somehow felt perfect at the same time. lol
· HBO’s “Winning Time” chronicles the rise of Lakers basketball in the 1980s. Which era of Kings basketball would you choose to see re-created on TV or film?
Most would probably say the early 00s but I’m going with the mid 80s team. The stories about the move to Sacramento, and playing at Arco One must be crazy!
