Two records were broken Tuesday night when the Sacramento Kings crushed the Milwaukee Bucks. Before Domantas Sabonis passed Jerry Lucas for the longest single-season double-double streak in franchise history, Malik Monk set his own record.

The favorite for Sixth Man of the Year has now totaled 630 assists as a reserve with Sacramento, passing 2002-03 Sixth Man of the Year winner Bobby Jackson (629) for the most assists by a reserve in franchise history.

“I’ve been making the right plays and my teammates have been there, knocking the shots down, so it ain’t all on me,” Monk said after Tuesday’s win.

Jackson, who went from head coach of the Stockton Kings last season to assistant coach of the Philadelphia 76ers, joined “The Drive Guys” Wednesday to talk about his record being broken and what Monk has meant to Sacramento, both the city and team.

“You know, I think records are made to be broken. But I think what Malik has done in the two years in Sacramento that it took me five to do, it tells you what type of tremendous basketball player he is,” Jackson said, jokingly adding that he didn’t pass the ball. “Malik is a way better passer and playmaker than me. I was trying to go get mine. It’s good you know, just to be remembered and to be in the same conversation as Malik because he’s one of the all-time great reserves and hopefully he wins this Man of the Year award.”

Additional topics discussed include:

  • Jackson said Monk texted him after the game, talking junk
  • His connection to the city, even with him moving to Philadelphia to take an assistant coaching role
  • The growth and development of De’Aaron Fox
  • Similarities between himself and Monk
  • What he enjoys about coaching
