The 49ers are undergoing a reshuffling on the defensive line, with Chase Young now likely to depart this offseason.
Reports surfaced Tuesday that the former San Francisco 49ers pass rusher will be visiting with several teams this week. Those include a plethora of southern division franchises, including the Carolina Panthers, New Orleans Saints and Tennessee Titans. It is unknown what order he will visit said interested teams, likely looking for the best deal on the market.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero was first with the news Tuesday, Ian Rapoport confirmed it thereafter.

Chase Young, 24, joined the 49ers at the 2023 Trade Deadline, giving a compensatory third-round pick to the Washington Commanders for his services. He started 12 games in total for the Red & Gold, racking up three sacks for the 49ers. He also had 21 combined tackles and 11 quarterback hits in SF.
The former No.2 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft was looking to enter free agency on a high note. Instead, he underwhelmed on the Red & Gold, with effort concerns playing a factor throughout. Still, at only 24 years old, he’s viewed as a high-potential pass riser for years to come.
The 49ers’ 2024 plans on the defensive line were made more clear with the expected signings of Leonard Floyd and Yetur Gross-Matos. Already up against the salary cap, the 49ers will look for other options that are more cost efficient moving forward.
Key offseason dates for the San Francisco 49ers
- Wednesday, March 13th – 2024 free agency signing period begins at 1 p.m. PST
- Thursday, April 25th – 2024 NFL Draft
